Welcome to the Home Page of
The Lotus Newsletter
Dr. Paul Beuselinck, editor of the
Lotus Newsletter and Lotus geneticist with the USDA-ARS.
The Lotus Newsletter is an informal communication outlet for researchers and 'aficionados' of the Lotus spp. Broadleaf birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.), narrowleaf trefoil (L. glaber Mill.), and big trefoil (L. uliginosus Schkuhr.) are the most common commercial species of Lotus, but there are more than 150 other species. One species in particular, L. japonicus, is used as a model system by legume researchers.
The reports contained in the Lotus Newsletter are of research on Lotus breeding, genetics, taxonomy, management, utilization or physiology. Within each volume you will also find a listing of current Lotus spp. literature published world-wide. Most literature citations are accompanied by their abstract.
If you have an interest in forage legumes or research of plants, please open a volume (I suggest you start with V. 32) and enjoy the Lotus Newsletter.
